We Could All Learn a Little About Confidence From North West
In a lot of ways, North West is a normal kid. She likes going shopping and putting on fake fashion shows in her little sister's wardrobe. She's discovered Tupac. She loves basketball, which, she makes clear, is a "lifestyle" for her, not a hobby. But as we all know, she isn't your average 10-year-old. This is made all too evident by her recently released first solo magazine cover, for i-D.
West, who is the oldest child of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, offered incredible quotes in her interview for the magazine's autumn/winter 2023 issue. Most remarkable, however, is West's confidence throughout. Take, for example, her knack for performing. Does she get that from her family? West credits her dad a "little bit," but says it's "mostly from me though."
When asked to describe her life in three words, West says, "Blessed, awesome, cool." How about herself in three words? "The Best Ever," she says. West also names herself as her style icon, of course. For many, the tween years are marked by immense change, growth, and perhaps a little awkwardness, making West's self-assuredness even more notable. Let's be honest, it's even inspiring to adults.
West doesn't just possess blind confidence, however. One of the more heartwarming revelations in the interview comes when she's asked to share her favourite memory. "When I first tried basketball, because I was so bad," she says. "So I know those memories and I'm like, 'Ooh, now I'm so good', I got so much better."
Though the sky's the limit, West says she wants to be a basketball player and rapper when she grows up, in addition to being an artist "on the side." Oh, and one other thing: "One day I want to own Yeezy and SKIMS, and I want to be a business owner." In the immediate future, she wants to walk dogs to make a little extra cash to buy art supplies.
When asked what the best thing is about being herself, West humbly says that she gets to play basketball and was recently able to go to Halloween Horror Nights. In between, however, she slips in, "Everything."
