It's hard to imagine a time before JAY-Z and Beyoncé were the "Crazy in Love" Carters, but after nearly 18 years of being hip-hop's most powerful couple, we're finally hearing the story of how they met. Over the weekend, the couple surprised fans with the release of their joint album, Everything Is Love, filled with juicy lyrics and references to things like skipping Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding and JAY-Z's infidelity. But on the song "713," which is a tribute to Beyoncé's hometown of Houston, JAY raps about meeting his future wife for the first time and the fateful plane ride that had them sit next to each other.

"We played it cool at the pool of the Cancun, VMA / Confidence you exude make the fools stay away / Me, I played my room, let the fools have they say / Fate had me sittin' next to you on the plane / And I knew straight away," he raps, referencing the 2000 MTV Spring Break festival in Cancun. Beyoncé was just 18 years old at the time and performing with Destiny's Child, but that flight wouldn't be the last time they'd see each other, even if it was a few years later!

JAY continues on the song, "The next time we would speak was like two years away / You had a man, you shut it down until you two had a break / I bet that dude rued the day / You kept me up on the phone while you were away / You came back, I let you set the date, Nobu on the plate / I brought my dude to play it cool, my first foolish mistake."

OK, OK, wait a minute, did JAY really bring a friend on their first date?! We're learning so much. Not only did the rapper wait until Beyoncé and her man at the time broke up, but they spoke on the phone a lot before they went on their first date to Nobu. Back in 2013, Beyoncé told Oprah that those phone calls were important to building their relationship. "We were friends first for a year and a half before we went on any dates," she said. "We were on the phone for a year and a half, and that foundation is so important for a relationship. Just to have someone who you just like is so important, and someone [who] is honest."

Now, 18 years later, they're a family of five with an empire on their hands. Moral of the story? Hold off on that last glass of wine on a flight, and just try to stay awake — you could be sitting next to your future Queen Bey.
