Selena Gomez Took a Break From Her Vacation to Share This Body-Positive Message
Following the news that she was stepping back from her relationship with Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez is taking a little time for herself. The 25-year-old singer was recently photographed vacationing on a yacht in Sydney with friends. It marked the first time Selena was photographed in a bikini following her extremely difficult kidney transplant last year. Now, she's using the moment to share an important message about body image and the perception of perfection.
On March 20, Selena shared a video with intimate footage from her ongoing trip. She captioned the video, "The beauty myth — an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society's impossible definition of flawless beauty." Adding, "I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone."
This isn't the first time Selena has spoken out about societal pressure and expectations. In 2015, Selena shared a picture of herself lounging by a pool in Mexico with the caption, "I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove."
