Tiffany Haddish on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert 2019

Tiffany Haddish Might Be Ditching Her Weighted Blanket After Taking Relationship Advice From John Mayer

Tiffany Haddish has had a big year. From winning an Emmy in 2018 to starring in four movies — she's been busy. The comedian sat down with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night's episode of The Late Show to discuss her newest film, The Kitchen, which she stars in alongside Melissa McCarthy and Elizabeth Moss. The pair picked up right where they left off in their September 2018 interview: speaking about her long-term relationship with a weighted blanket.

Last time Haddish was on The Late Show, she revealed that although her love life had taken a tumble since her career had taken off, she was just fine without a man, thanks to her "weighted blanket and my toys that I get off of Groupon. And batteries — batteries are a girl's best friend." But it looks like her weighted blanket — while still very much an important part of her life — will soon be set aside. Haddish admitted to receiving relationship advice from a number of people in her life, but specifically, John Mayer.

We know what you're thinking: John Mayer is (how do we put this diplomatically?) an interesting choice to get relationship advice from. Not so fast — his advice is actually kind of brilliant. In a hilarious, left-of-field way.

According to Haddish, "[John Mayer] said, if there's somebody that I like, that's in the eye of the public, I should — when I'm doing interviews — say that I'm seeing that person, right, and then the media will do a side-by-side of us. And then the guy will see it, and he'll be like, 'oh she's kind of cute. I mean, I'm not hooking up with her, but I could hook up with her'. And then, you know, there's be some kind of interaction. He'll start thinking. . . like, the world will know I like this person, I will know that I like this person, and it will be in his subconscious, and then he will attract me to him."

When pushed by Colbert to reveal who, in the public eye, she is seeing these days *wink wink*, she answered, "Oh! I've been seeing number 27 from the New York Yankees. Yes, I've been seeing him. . . Giancarlo Stanton. I've been seeing him." Colbert then pulled a side-by-side photo of Haddish and Stanton as he said "oh, I've been seeing pictures of you together on The Late Show," and Haddish responded, "I've been seeing him at baseball games, I've been seeing him on Instagram, I've been seeing him on Twitter, I've been seeing him in my dreams a lot." Haddish finished the conversation about her love life by saying "he can be my weighted blanket," and in the meantime, she'll be waiting for the phone to ring.
