Back before Shawn Mendes hit the big time, he was just a teenage Vine star doing normal teen things like going to prom. Fans have long speculated that his prom date, classmate Lauren Arendse, is the former girlfriend Shawn once off-handedly mentioned in a 2017 Q&A.

"I actually had a girlfriend for two years and so I wrote songs about her. But I write a lot of songs about love that I may not understand exactly, but I do think I have a good almost understanding of it," he said.

For now, Shawn is single and admits that, though he's open to a relationship, he's not exactly a smooth operator when it comes to talking to girls.

"Dude, I have no game," he told Rolling Stone. "There's less we have to do because of the good hair. We're already 10 steps ahead. But being good-looking doesn't make you have game."
