Kevin Hart Mourns the Death of His Father: "One of the Realest & Rawest to Ever Do It"

Kevin Hart is mourning the death of his father. On 12 Oct., the comedian announced on Instagram via a series of tribute posts that his father, Henry Robert Witherspoon, died at age 73. In his first post, Hart wrote, "RIP to one of the realest & rawest to ever do it...Love you dad. Gone but never forgotten....Give mom a hug for me....y'all did good man. Thank you for everything....I'm a better father because of you 😢💪🏾🙏🏾 We will all make you proud...." Hart's second post included a photo of him and his father, captioned, "RIP spoon .....😢🙏🏾."

Hart's relationship with his father was first publicised in the comedian's early stand-up specials, including 2011's "Laugh at My Pain." The "Me Time" star also wrote about Witherspoon's drug addiction and multiple stints in jail extensively in his 2017 memoir, "I Can't Make This Up." In 2018, Hart told People of forgiving his dad, "No matter what, he's my father. . . . Regardless of my upbringing and the way I was raised and how often he was in my life, he's my dad. . . . You can't go back in the past and fix this or fix that. I can only move forward, and I can only love you today."

Hart's mother, Nancy, died of ovarian cancer in 2007 — she was 57 years old. She raised Hart and his older brother, Robert, largely on her own on account of Witherspoon's drug addiction.
