Musician Evelyn Glennie received her damehood in 2007 and was appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour in 2017. Though she has been deaf since the age of 12, Glennie has worked as an internationally renowned percussionist since the 1970s. She claims to have taught herself to hear with parts of her body other than her ears.
