In a Royal First: the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Did a Public Engagement Via Zoom
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge just undertook a royal first: doing a public engagement via video call.
On Wednesday, dialling in from their home in Norfolk, William and Catherine paid a surprise visit (virtually) to children of key workers, and the teachers, at a primary school in Burnley.
Since there was no usual press photography and videos to mark the occasion, Kensington Palace released a recording of the Zoom meeting on Instagram. The couple seemed relaxed and delighted to be speaking with the kids, thanking their key-worker parents for all their hard work amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Kate and Will also made sure to thank the children's teachers. "Teachers across the UK are dedicating their time to keeping schools open for the children of key workers and vulnerable children", the Instagram caption read. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge called teachers and school staff at Casterton Primary Academy to thank them for their hard work and dedication - and to wish the children a very Happy Easter 🐣." The engagement was in partnership with Place2Be — a charity where Kate became a patron in 2013 — which aims improve children's mental health in schools.
It's unclear yet whether this is a first of many virtual engagements, or just a one-off surprise. Either way, it's sure to brighten up your day — especially, the kids' sweet bunny ears.
