Priyanka Chopra Responds to Rosie O'Donnell's Public Apology

Priyanka Chopra Schools Rosie O'Donnell on Identity: "Not All Chopra's Are Related"

Priyanka Chopra has responded to Rosie O'Donnell's recent apology after the comedian shared her awkward run-in with Chopra and her husband, Nick Jonas, at Nobu Malibu. In a TikTok video posted on 20 Feb., the former talk show host explained how "embarrassed" she was for mistaking Chopra as the daughter of author Deepak Chopra.

"So when I said, 'Hi, Nick Jonas. You were great in 'Kingdom' and 'Hi, [Chopra]. I know your dad.' She goes, 'You do? Who's my dad?," O'Donnell says in her video. "And I'm like, 'Deepak.' She's like, 'No, and Chopra is a common name.' ... I felt so embarrassed." O'Donnell expressed her regret, adding, "Nick Jonas, I apologise and to the Chopra wife, I apologise too."

Days after the comedian posted her TikTok, Chopra shared her honest thoughts on O'Donnell's apology via her Instagram Story. "I have never taken myself so seriously to think everyone would know who I am, or my work for that matter," she wrote in a statement. "But if you wanted to make a public apology for a very awkward private encounter, I think probably best to take the time to google my name before doing it or even try to reach out directly. We ALL deserve to be respected for our unique individuality and not be referred to as 'someone' or 'wife' especially in a sincere apology. If we can learn to respect our differences in an authentic way, the world we raise our children in, will be amazing."

Chopra also added onto her initial response to O'Donnell, explaining that, again, "Not all Chopra's are related to the great Deepak, just as not all Smith's are related to the legendary Will Smith." O'Donnell posted a second TikTok shortly after her apology, including a caption that reads, "priyanka is her name - i shoulda googled b4 i tiktok ed." In the video, she adds, "I just want to apologise to her and to everyone who thought that it was really inappropriate of me. Sorry, sometimes I f*ck up. I did at Nobu."
