A few days after the release of the FX/Hulu documentary Framing Britney Spears, Sam Asghari, Britney's boyfriend of five years, spoke out about the singer's controversial conservatorship. The instalment, which is a part of The New York Times Presents docuseries, examines Britney's battle with father Jamie Spears, who has legally controlled her life despite #FreeBritney supporters pointing out the many discrepancies surrounding the conservatorship. While Britney has not addressed the documentary, which was not authorised by the singer herself, Sam broke his silence on the matter in an exclusive interview with People on Feb. 8.

"I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world."

"I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves," the actor said in a statement. "I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together."

A day later, Sam doubled down on his statement on his Instagram Story, writing, "Now it's important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way." Without mincing words, Sam added, "In my opinion Jamie is a total d*ck."

While Sam's statements didn't address aspects of the documentary directly, he offered his support for both Britney and her fans, who have banded together to launch the #FreeBritney movement. He also explained that he won't be going into any details because he respects Britney's privacy. Sam and Britney met on the set of the pop star's "Slumber Party" music video back in 2016 and have maintained a romantic relationship ever since.
