Zayn Malik has Been a Selena Gomez Fan Since 2010 Amid New Romance Rumours
Selena Gomez may have found a new direction in her love life. The "Only Murders in the Building" actor is reportedly spending time with "Pillowtalk" singer Zayn Malik. POPSUGAR has reached out to Gomez and Malik's reps for comment.
Rumours that Gomez and Malik recently stepped out together began when a TikTok user said in a 23 March video that her friend, a hostess in NYC, texted her that she had seated the pair together at an unnamed restaurant. She also claimed she'd seen Gomez, 30, and Malik, 30, "making out." Since then, the TikTok community has been speculating about the "Spring Breakers" actor and the former One Direction member, but neither Gomez nor Malik have commented on the matter. Additionally, no photos from their reported evening out have been shared.
On 24 March, a source told Entertainment Tonight, "Selena and Zayn went out in SoHo in New York City last night at around 10:30 pm. They walked in holding hands and were kissing. Most restaurant staff and restaurantgoers didn't notice them. It seemed like they were comfortable together and it was clear that it was a date."
Although, the pair may have been in contact for some time. In an unearthed tweet from way back in 2010, Malik appeared to spark up a conversation with the actor long before their most recent liaison. Eagle-eyed fans have dug up a tweet in which Malik, who would have been just 17 at the time and had only just auditioned for "The X Factor", tried to hit up his crush. "@selenagomez hey :)", he casually tweeted in November 2010. Despite garnering 80k retweets, 102k likes and 15k quotes at the time of writing, his tweet originally went unnoticed by Gomez. At least publicly. . .
Three years later, it seems the feeling was reciprocated, as Gomez was asked in a 2013 interview with Extra TV which One Direction member she would choose to lock lips with — and ended up picking Malik. In the uncovered clip, reporter Terri Seymour referenced a radio interview where all the One Direction members reportedly said they would want to kiss Selena Gomez. Seymour asked the then-21-year-old: "If you had to pick, who would you pick for a kiss?" In response, Gomez said: "Oh no...Zayn. Maybe, that's it, I'm done!"
Gomez was most recently linked to The Chainsmokers' Drew Taggart, with whom she was spotted holding hands in New York in late January, as per photos obtained by Entertainment Tonight. That romance was seemingly short-lived, though, as Gomez posted a TikTok in March lip-syncing to the audio, "I hate it when girls are like, 'Oh my gosh, my crush doesn't even know that I exist.' Girl, my crush doesn't even exist!" She added in the caption, "Still out here lookin for him lol."
Malik previously dated Gigi Hadid, with whom he shares daughter Khai Hadid Malik. The pair split in autumn 2021 amid headlines about Malik getting into a dispute with Hadid's mother, Yolanda Hadid.
