Will Hannah Be in 13 Reasons Why Season 3?

If 13 Reasons Why Returns For Season 3, There's a Good Chance Hannah Baker Won't

13 Reasons Why

After binge-watching 13 Reasons Why season two, we're left with quite a few questions, but the biggest is: will there be another season? While Netflix hasn't exactly confirmed whether the show has been renewed, there is one character who probably won't be making an appearance if it is: Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford). After tying up her story with the trial in season two, showrunner Brian Yorkey told Entertainment Weekly that there probably won't be a big need for her character next season.

"Should we get a season three, the loss of Hannah will continue to be the inciting traumatic event for this group of kids and parents. It will always be part of the story," he explained. "But I don't see a tremendous continued presence for Hannah because I think we needed her to finish telling everyone else's side of her story and we needed her so that Clay could get to a point of saying, 'I love you and I let you go.' If the story does continue, and certainly there is lots more to know about a lot of these characters, then the spotlight focus on Hannah Baker is probably done."

Even with Hannah gone, Yorkey added that there will still be a big sense of community for a potential third season. "One of our big themes for the season was the progression from isolation to community," Yorkey said. "We really wanted these kids to find a community in each other. I do hope that if the story does continue, we will continue to see that. I'm sure there will be new adversity, but I'm sure we also will see that there are bonds here that these characters didn't have before."
