The Saddest Deaths on Once Upon a Time

It's bad enough that Regina loses her first love, but at the hands of her own mother? That's cruel. As if that wasn't already devastating, Regina is forced to say goodbye to Daniel yet again in Storybrooke. When Dr. Whale manages to bring Daniel back from the dead, not everything is what it seems. After trying to strangle Regina, he begs her to let him die.

As the Evil Queen plans to get her revenge on Snow White, she realizes the last thing she needs for the dark curse is the heart of the one she loves most: her father. Even though Henry Sr. tries to convince her they can try and find happiness together, she decides it isn't enough and yanks his heart out of his chest.

As Storybrooke's sexiest sheriff, aka the Huntsman, slowly starts to realize who he really is, Regina takes a page out of her mother's book and crushes his heart. Not only does he die right in front of Emma, but it also begins the long cycle of her losing the people she loves.

As Peter Pan threatens the well-being of everyone in Storybrooke, Rumple has a rare occurrence of bravery when he uses the dagger to kill himself and his father. Of course, he eventually comes back to life when Neal unknowingly sacrifices himself to bring the Dark One back.

Emma really has bad luck with guys. When Emma uses her magic to split Neal from Mr. Gold, he ends up dying in the process. As he lays in former love's arms, he tells her to go find happiness without him.

Once Elsa reveals the truth about her mother, Gerda, the Snow Queen makes a heroic decision to sacrifice herself for the town and, in doing so, finally be reunited with her sisters.

After a lot of back and forth between Dark Emma and Dark Hook, the latter decides to be a better man by sacrificing himself and eliminating the darkness. Thankfully, his death is short-lived, as Zeus ends up bringing him back to life.

In what might be one of the saddest deaths on the show, Regina says goodbye to yet another person she loves when Hades kills Robin Hood with the Olympian crystal that was actually meant for her.

Rumple and Belle really do have an epic romance. After spending their lives together, Belle grows old and passes away in their home that they built together. Even though Rumple is heartbroken to see her go, she assures him that they will eventually find their way back to each other like they've done many times before.
