We Finally Have the First Look at Donald Glover and Maya Erskine in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"
We finally have our first look at Amazon Prime Video's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" reboot. On 14 Sept., Prime Video shared the first image from the series, which stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The streamer also announced that the show, based on the film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, will premiere in 2024.
Way back in February 2021, Glover announced he was teaming up with Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the series, but that September, Variety reported that the "Fleabag" star had exited the series. Glover revealed that Erskine would be joining him on the show in an April 2022 piece for Interview magazine.
Glover (who was interviewing himself) asked, "What happened with Phoebe Waller-Bridge? She was supposed to be on 'Smith,' right?" To which he replied, "Yeah. But classic creative differences." He then confirmed that the new Mrs. Smith is Erskine, who's known for starring in and co-creating Hulu's "PEN15." "She's dope," Glover said of Erskine. "It's exciting. I really love the show. I'm writing the finale now."

In June 2022, Variety reported that the reboot's cast includes Michaela Coel, John Turturro, and Paul Dano in guest-star roles that have yet to be revealed.
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" Plot
The original "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" — which hit cinemas on 7 June, 2005 — starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married couple John and Jane Smith, who are secretly rival spies and only learn that fact when they're ordered to kill each other. But Glover's series has a different plot that's actually more reminiscent of FX's "The Americans."
In the series, Glover and Erskine play John and Jane Smith, who give up their identities to be partners in both espionage and marriage. Each episode follows them on a different mission for a mysterious agency. Prime's logline reads, in part, "When the cracks begin to show through, they must fight to stay together. Because in this marriage, divorce is not an option."
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" Production Team
Glover co-created the series with Francesca Sloane, who serves as showrunner. Sloane previously worked with Glover on "Atlanta" and FX's "Fargo." Glover has an overall deal with Amazon Studios, and his projects for the streamer have included 2019 musical film "Guava Island," featuring Rihanna, and the thriller series "Swarm," co-created with Janine Nabers, which premiered on the streamer this March.
