Channel 4's "Big Boys" Is Coming Back For Season 2

Danny' Jon Pointing & Dylan llewellyn 'Jack'

The first series of Channel 4's "Big Boys" — which aired in May 2022 — became an instant hit, as viewers were consumed by the lovable characters and relatable coming-of-age story. Well, we come with good news: the sitcom has just been renewed for a second season.

"The response to Big Boys series 1 has been so phenomenally kind, heartwarming and beyond anything any of us could have hoped for, the fact we got onto Gogglebox is probably the proudest moment of mine and my mum's lives (she got over 100 likes on Facebook for it!)," the show's creator, writer, and narrator Jack Rooke jokes of the news. "And so after a huge spit-roast at Harvester, I decided I probably do have some more embarrassing stories about me and my mates to mine for comic material so get ready for an even more cringe second year at Brent University."

The critically acclaimed comedy follows the story of two unlikely friends — Jack and Danny — who meet during Freshers Week at the fictional Brent University. Dylan Llewellyn plays the geeky, closeted 19-year-old Jack, while Jon Pointing stars as stereotypical "lad" Danny. You may recognise Llewellyn as "The Wee English Fella" James Maguire from "Derry Girls", or from being friends with "Bridgerton"'s Nicola Coughlan. And it was Coughlan who first introduced Llewellyn to Rooke at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Based on Rooke's autobiographical stage shows, we watch as the character Jack plays out some of the challenging things that the show's creator experienced in real life such as grief, sexuality, mental health, toxic masculinity, and more. We can expect some of the same themes to be explored in the next season. Ash Atalla, managing director at Roughcut TV, said: "Big Boys comes from the heart and soul of Jack Rooke and we're so happy to bring it back. We promise more sex, drugs and tears in series 2."

A release date for the second series hasn't been announced just yet, but you can rewatch every episode so far on All 4 the meantime.
