Hilary Duff Leads How I Met Your Mother Sequel Series

Hilary Duff Is Starring on a How I Met Your Mother Sequel? Sounds Like It'll Be Legendary

Haaave you met Hilary? Younger actress, Hilary Duff, is about to embark on a new adventure as the lead on Hulu's upcoming How I Met Your Mother sequel. On April 21, Duff revealed she's joining as the character, Sophie, who tells her son how she connected with his dad. Can you guess the title? Ding, ding, How I Met Your Father, is correct.

It's unclear if or how Duff's series will connect to the original show starring Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan, but needless to say the premise sounds legen — wait for it — dary. "I've been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I'm looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie," Duff said. "As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I'm honoured and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can't wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realise these are big shoes to fill and I'm excited to slip my 6 ½'s in there!"

If the premise of this sequel sounds familiar, it's because a similar project starring Greta Gerwig almost took off in 2013, but the pilot was never picked up. This time, however, Hulu sent the show straight to series. Duff previously lobbied for the streaming service to handle the Lizzie McGuire reboot now-shelved by Disney. Although that partnership didn't pan out, we're excited to see more of Duff on our screens soon in this new role — and perhaps a Younger spinoff down the road?
