Watch Kelly Clarkson Cover Rihanna's Umbrella For Kellyoke

Kelly Clarkson Belts Out a Rock 'n' Roll Rendition of Rihanna's "Umbrella"

Another day, another Kelly Clarkson performance that clinches her status as the queen of musical covers. On the 7 Nov. episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show," the "American Idol" alum belted out a rock 'n' roll rendition of Rihanna's "Umbrella," complete with heavy drums, electric guitar, and bass by her house band, My Band Y'all. Harmonising with backup singer Jessi Collins, Clarkson breathed new life into the track and transported us right back to 2007 when its catchy "ella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh" chorus was omnipresent. And of course she treats us to a few of her signature high notes.

Clarkson's cover is quite timely, given Rihanna's recent return to music with "Lift Me Up" for the "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" soundtrack. But it's actually not the first time the host has paid vocal homage to the Savage x Fenty founder. In 2019, she performed Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)" for a "Kellyoke" segment that was crashed by her kids, River and Remington. Three years before that, she sang "B*tch Better Have My Money" for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge.

Time and time again, Clarkson has proven her ability to sing across musical genres, covering everything from Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice" to Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever." Just last month, she celebrated Halloween with a rock version of "Monster Mash" and paid tribute to the late country legend Loretta Lynn by dueting one of her hits with Dwyane Johnson. Check out her latest "Kellyoke" gig above, and prepare to have "Umbrella" stuck in your head for the remainder of the day.
