Regina Hall on Preparing to Host the 2022 Oscars

Regina Hall Shares How She's Preparing to Cohost the Oscars: "Drinking"

Regina Hall is gearing up for a big gig. It was announced last month that the actor will be cohosting the 2022 Oscars with Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes, and ahead of the March 27 award show, Hall spoke about her prep process in a "Good Morning America" interview. "It's a lot of writing, talking, brainstorming, getting to know each other, feeling each other's comedic vibes." Hall joked, "Drinking, we've been drunk a lot."

Hall said viewers can expect a collaborative show, and hosts won't be siloed in their own segments. Though she has attended the Vanity Fair afterparty a number of times, in an interesting twist, Hall's first time hosting will also mark her first time attending the show. Among the many nominees, Hall said she is most excited to meet Andrew Garfield and Denzel Washington, and she named Whoopi Goldberg as the hosting veteran she'd like to seek advice from. "It was so fabulous when she hosted," she said. "Ellen DeGeneres was great too, but I was so excited when Whoopi hosted."

Despite her revered career spanning several decades, it's been an especially transformative few years for Hall, who received critical acclaim for her roles in "Black Monday" and "Nine Perfect Strangers." She'll also soon appear in "Master," a social thriller and debut feature film from Mariama Diallo about the experiences of three Black women at a predominately white university.

This will be the first time in three years that the Oscars will have hosts. The last host was Jimmy Kimmel in 2018. Kimmel also fronted the show in 2017, the year of the infamous best picture envelope mix-up.
