On Tuesday, it was officially announced that this year's Strictly Come Dancing competition will feature the show's first same-sex coupling.

Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams will star in the hugely popular BBC show — which has been running for 16 years — and compete with a female dancing professional. In an interview with BBC Breakfast, Adams revealed that she suggested a same-sex partnership when producers asked her to take part in the 2020 competition. "It's definitely time to move on and be more diverse, and this is a brilliant step in the right direction," she said.

Although the full lineup is yet to be announced, there are now five confirmed contestants taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2020 alongside Adams, including presenter Ranvir Singh, radio DJ Clara Amfo, actor Caroline Quentin, former NFL player Jason Bell, and The Wanted's Max George. However, in keeping with Strictly's tradition, we won't find out which dancing professional Adams or the other contestants have been partnered with for another few weeks.
