"The Ultimatum": Where Do the Couples Stand Today?

If you remember that chaotic dinner scene from episode three, then you know Lauren and Nate were one of two couples to cut their time short on "The Ultimatum." In a surprising turn of events (that followed after another bombshell proposal), Nate popped the big question to Lauren before she could pair up with Colby. The two got engaged and left the show as they no longer needed to go through the entire experiment.

During the reunion, the couple updated viewers on what happened after they left. Nate, who was very vocal about wanting kids, proposed to Lauren without knowing whether or not they'd ever start a family. "It was me coming to the realisation that I would rather spend the rest of my life with her and not [have] kids, than having to find someone that's 70, 80 percent, at best, of what Lauren is to me and have a kid fill the remaining 20 percent," he explained of his decision to propose.

After Nate's proposal, he and Lauren said agreed they still had things to figure out in their relationship, so they sought out "expert advice" from a therapist. They also shared that they didn't feel like the show was a good fit for them because they only had one issue to solve: having kids together. In the end, the two revealed that they finally agreed to have one child, so they're still going strong.

Before Nate's shocking proposal in episode three, Alexis and Hunter were "The Ultimatum"'s first engaged couple. Alexis later appeared in episode seven to celebrate her upcoming nuptials with the remaining ladies in the cast. Though Alexis and Hunter were absent for most of the show, the two tell POPSUGAR that they moved to Los Angeles together immediately after filming wrapped to begin planning their wedding.

"We're scheduled to get married summer of this year [June], which we're really excited for because we can move forward with our lives as a married couple," Hunter says. The two also shared their wedding updates during the reunion, revealing that they're "very heavy into the planning phase" and Hunter's mother, a wedding planner, is helping as well.

In regards to their experience on "The Ultimatum," Alexis and Hunter said that they have no regrets about being on the show and walked away learning huge lessons about themselves. "Alexis has helped me a lot in our relationship and [helped me] come out of my shell," Hunter tells us. "In terms of regrets? No, we got engaged, which is the best thing that's happened to me so far." Alexis adds: "Watching it back and seeing how much I cared about finances and stuff, that was important to me at the time . . . But where I'm at in my relationship with Hunter, we're a team and so [finances] are not the priority of our relationship right now. That's been a big shift for sure."

April and Jake's relationship had a lot of ups and downs during "The Ultimatum" — from the former's pregnancy scare to the latter's strong connection with Rae. By the finale, their two-and-a-half-year romance fizzled out and the two decided to break up. However, that wasn't the end of their relationship.

After the show ended, April tells POPSUGAR that she and Jake continued to see each other "for months on and off" and she also stayed at his place. "I was just hoping that something would reignite or change and for months, it didn't," she says. "It wasn't going anywhere, and it was hard to accept. It was a hard thing to swallow, but I was just like, 'Alright, this isn't going anywhere. Let's just completely cut ties. Do your thing, I'm going to do my thing. But if you need me, I'm going to be here 100 percent.'" April also revealed that the two were still in touch until the end of January, but as of March 30, she's been blocked from contacting him.

During the reunion, Jake gave an update on his dating life and shared that he remained single after the show, despite agreeing to take a trip with Rae following his breakup (which didn't end up happening). "I was doing myself for a while . . . trying to find out what I really want. What makes me happy," he said. So as it turns out, he and Rae didn't continue their connection after all.

April shared her own update during the show and confirmed that she's currently in a "serious relationship." She tells POPSUGAR that the new relationship has changed some of her views around marriage, though it's still very important to her. "It's weird because I'm in a relationship where he talks about marriage just as much as I do," she says. But she also shares some of the regrets she has about Jake.

"In the experience, I felt guilty . . . I should have never brought him on this experience. [That was] completely disrespectful and rude of me," she tells us. "I honestly regretted it . . . But looking back at it, I realise where I'm at today, how peaceful my life is, how much I've grown and how less reactive I am when things don't go my way. I'm so grateful for this experience because I learned who I am, and I learned that it's okay to be selfish and demand the things that you want."

Out of all the "Ultimatum" couples, Rae and Zay arguably had the most tumultuous relationship. The two both explored strong connections on the show — Rae with Jake and Zay with Shanique — but had an explosive fight in episode eight that led to their breakup.

While Zay didn't participate in decision day during the season finale, Rae chose to continue her connection with Jake, who presented her with plane tickets to travel anywhere in the world together. However, the two decided not to date once filming wrapped.

During the reunion, Rae revealed that she and Jake mutually agreed not to go on their trip, and she also shared that she and Zay tried to rekindle their relationship after the show; But again, their relationship didn't work out. Zay shared that he chose to stay single, while Rae revealed that she's been with one woman since their breakup.

"Since Zay and I split up, I've been with one person. She's amazing and I had a really good connection with her," she said during the reunion. "I'm kinda exploring myself and my sexuality because I was very uncomfortable with being [bisexual] for a very long time." At this time, it's unclear if Rae and Zay are still single.

Shanique and Randall were another couple whose relationship was put to the test. Shanique issued the ultimatum to Randall, but things took a turn when they both began to explore their own connections on the show. Randall paired up with Madlyn, while Shanique ended up with Zay. But in the season finale, the two chose to stay together, and Randall finally proposed to Shanique. However, their relationship was still shaky.

"After the show wrapped, we decided that it was best for us to kind of, I guess for lack of better words, split up. Kind of work on ourselves," Randall tells POPSUGAR. "Unfortunately, I dealt with a lot of loss in this past year with family members and friends, so it was kind of hard for me to give my all in this relationship. But Shanique was by my side the entire way. Although we were separated, we were still together, still working on ourselves." Shanique adds: "Things were happening in our day-to-day life that was preventing us from actually being happy about the proposal. And there were just things that we needed to talk through and still work through that we didn't really discover before 'The Ultimatum.'"

During the reunion, Shanique revealed that their breakup was "the hardest time of my life," but shared that their time apart helped them appreciate their relationship even more. Randall confirms to POPSUGAR that the two have since gotten back together (only dating) and they're "stronger than we've ever been."

Madlyn and Colby had quite the unique experience on "The Ultimatum." While Colby seemed more than ready for marriage, Madlyn was hesitant and fully embraced her connection with Randall. And though it seemed like the two were going to stay together, Madlyn ended up choosing Colby, who then proposed and married his longtime girlfriend all in one swoop. The couple ended the season finale with a whirlwind wedding and gave POPSUGAR an update on where they are today.

"Our relationship, it's entirely different than what you witnessed on the show," Madlyn tells us. "Getting married, we are 100 percent more committed to each other and working together towards better communication, understanding, and a better everyday life together." She also shares that, as of March 30, she's 35 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and due on May 10th.

During the reunion, the couple confirmed that "The Ultimatum" helped them realise exactly what they wanted out of their relationship. For Colby, that meant proposing marriage and that's exactly what happened. "We hit rock bottom and were able to fully commit to what we are now," he tells POPSUGAR. "Her biggest issue prior to the whole engagement and everything was making sure that our love has been truly tested to the full extent, instead of just having bubbly happiness all the time like we were." Madlyn adds: "I wanted to make sure, before getting into a marriage, that we could handle the lows."

The couple is coming up on their one-year wedding anniversary (May 11), and with a baby on the way, it's safe to say they've been enjoying married life as a family.
