Whether you have a Zoom interview set up because of social distancing or it's just the next phase in your hiring process, you may find yourself wondering what to wear for a virtual call. If this is the first time you're meeting an associate or colleague through the screen, you'll want to make yourself appear particularly presentable and also memorable. In other words, this isn't just a weekly meeting you have with your coworkers who are also pretty much your best friends — so don't dress for that occasion! Instead, try shopping the section of your closet you probably haven't visited in months. Remember those minimalist, structured jackets called blazers? They're screaming, "Pick me! Pick me!" Other not-so-obvious outfit tips include, but are not limited to: 1. getting dressed from head to toe and 2. assessing how your colour palette looks in front of your background. There are plenty of options for outfits, some of which are probably already hanging in your wardrobe. But if you are in the market for some spiffier, more polished pieces, we've provided you with some links. Fear not; you're going to ace this interview in style. Scroll through to see how it's done. 1 Go For Bright Colours View this post on Instagram A post shared by CASSANDRA (@cassandra.cadwell) on Jul 22, 2020 at 12:01pm PDT A white blouse will lend you a natural glow, especially when paired with some glistening jewellery that you really love and are used to wearing. 2 Get the Look Image Source: revolve.com Song of Style Tangerine Sweater in Cream ($140) Song of Style Tangerine Sweater in Cream $140 from revolve.com Buy Now 3 Shop Your Blazer Section View this post on Instagram A post shared by Monikh Dale (@monikh) on Sep 3, 2020 at 9:16am PDT We know it's probably pretty obvious, but the blazer is called a staple in your wardrobe for a reason. As long as yours has been hanging properly and is wrinkle-free, it makes for a classic pairing with a clean shirt underneath. 4 Get the Look Image Source: www2.hm.com H&M Linen-blend Blazer ($28, originally $50) H&M Linen-blend Blazer $28 from www2.hm.com Buy Now 5 Comfort Is Key View this post on Instagram A post shared by Chrissy Rutherford (@chrissyford) on Oct 4, 2020 at 6:00pm PDT What's not so obvious? The fact that you should be prepared to sit for a long interview — even if it only ends up being 20 minutes. If comfort for you means a ribbed skirt set instead of trousers and a structured top, there are plenty of looks that are polished, presentable, and totally flattering. 6 Get the Look Image Source: zara.com Zara Ribbed Polo ($30) Zara Ribbed Polo $30 from zara.com Buy Now 7 Get the Look Image Source: zara.com Zara Ribbed Skirt ($30) Zara Ribbed Skirt $30 from zara.com Buy Now 8 Choose a Natural Makeup Look View this post on Instagram A post shared by minami (@minamigessel) on May 11, 2020 at 1:02pm PDT Don't go over the top when it comes to your makeup or try anything too funky for the first time. But, if you love a red lip and wear one often because it speaks to your personality and boosts your confidence, definitely don't shy away from it on interview day. 9 Get the Look Image Source: maisonmiru.com Maison Miru Architect Hoops ($99) Maison Miru Architect Hoops $99 from maisonmiru.com Buy Now 10 Get Dressed Head-to-Toe View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mecca James-Williams (@meccajw) on Oct 1, 2020 at 9:01am PDT Yes, you should wear pants. There's proof that when you dress for success, your performance is better, so the sweats you chill out in while watching Netflix are probably not the best idea for an interview. If a full pantsuit makes you feel like a boss, go for it. 11 Get the Look Image Source: shop.mango.com Mango Structured cotton blazer ($130), Buttons suit waistcoat ($100), and Cotton pleated pants ($100) Structured cotton blazer $130 from shop.mango.com Buy Now Buttons suit waistcoat $100 from shop.mango.com Buy Now Cotton pleated pants $100 from shop.mango.com Buy Now 12 Swap Out Your Slippers View this post on Instagram A post shared by Micaéla Verrelien 🇭🇹 (@micaelaverrelien) on Apr 30, 2020 at 5:32am PDT If only for the length of the interview, there's something about stepping into a comfortable flat or polished block-heel that will make you feel elevated. Chances are, your interviewer is not going to ask you what's on your feet, unless your intended career path is with a footwear company. But giving yourself a little boost by wearing a pretty shoe definitely won't hurt your mood — or your outfit. 13 Get the Look Image Source: asos.com ASOS Design Wide Fit Wings Embellished Block Heeled Mules in Multi ($46, originally $64) ASOS Design Wide Fit Wings Embellished Block Heeled Mules in Multi $46 from asos.com Buy Now 14 Try Buttoning Your Collar View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jessie Bush (@wethepeoplestyle) on Jul 21, 2020 at 9:19am PDT You should do what feels most comfortable, of course, but if you want to draw attention to your face, try out the preppy, buttoned-up look in front of your mirror before the interview and see how it makes you feel. If you feel that you appear more polished, go with it! But if you feel stuffy and it doesn't speak to your personal style, try something else. 15 Get the Look Image Source: aritzia.com Aritzia Babaton Borna Jacket ($175, originally $198) and Babaton Borna Short ($118) Babaton Borna Jacket $175 from aritzia.com Buy Now Babaton Borna Short $118 from aritzia.com Buy Now 16 It's All About the Background View this post on Instagram A post shared by Janelle Marie Lloyd (@waityouneedthis) on Jul 16, 2020 at 4:54pm PDT Make sure that whatever you're wearing looks clean up against the background behind your computer or tablet. If you have enough space, positioning a non-distracting plant behind you doesn't hurt — especially if it complements the colour of your couch and your outfit is pretty simple. 17 Get the Look Image Source: lacausaclothing.com LACAUSA Berkeley Dress ($176) LACAUSA Berkeley Dress $176 from lacausaclothing.com Buy Now 18 Don't Forget About Your Everyday Jewellery View this post on Instagram A post shared by Fanny Ekstrand (@fannyekstrand) on Sep 17, 2020 at 4:23am PDT If you're the type of person who lives in the same jewellery every day, it might almost feel like your armor. Do you feel naked without that simple chainlink choker or those simple studs? Don't catch a glimpse of yourself on screen and realise you're forgetting something — just wear what you normally wear and you'll give a great representation of yourself. 19 Get the Look Image Source: benonijewelry.com Ben Oni Kim Anti-Tarnish Figaro Necklace ($54) Ben Oni Kim Anti-Tarnish Figaro Necklace $54 from benonijewellery.com Buy Now ShoppingStaying HomeShoppableInterview TipsFashion InstagramsStyle How-ToFallFall FashionH&M
