Allyson Felix Shared Her 2020 Olympic Goals, Mom Tips, and More During an Instagram Q&A

When asked what her goals are for the 2020 Summer Olympics, Allyson said her first goal is to make her fifth Olympic team: "It's the hardest team to make, and I never take anything for granted." And if she does make the team, she said the goal is to bring home some gold medals.

Another follower asked Allyson what keeps her motivated when she doesn't feel like it, and Allyson responded with a picture of herself and her daughter, Camryn. "This face! All my goals I have left to accomplish. And who I represent when I step on the track," she said.

If you're feeling uninspired when it comes to running or any other activity you're doing, Allyson said, "First ask yourself if you're passionate about running and if it's something you want to continue to pursue. The answer doesn't have to be yes." If you are passionate, "keep working," she said. "There are tough times where you don't always see the payoff. Continue to do things the right way. To be great takes patience," she added. Allyson also recommends finding the lesson in everything you experience and to always be kind to yourself.

Allyson has been transparent about her pregnancy complications and said adjusting to motherhood is "the hardest thing I've ever done. It's also the best part of my life." She explained that some days, she struggles, and on other days, she feels great. "I'm figuring out how to be the best mom I can [be], and also not sacrifice professionally," she added.

Someone asked Allyson what helps her stand firm on her values and beliefs, to which she responded, "My values were tested more than ever this year. It was really tough but for me it's important to stand for what's right. Even if it's scary and even if there are consequences. I saw by doing that, you have the power to create change. It's bigger than career moves, it's about what you believe in and how you live your life."

When asked about her advice on travelling with a baby, she said, "I'll be honest, it always gives me anxiety." She acknowledged that you can't control how a baby will be on a flight, but she does recommend taking either an early or a late flight because there's a better chance that the baby will sleep. She also recommends having lots of toys ready and feeding the baby during both the takeoff and landing. Most importantly, "Roll with the punches."

If you want to start running, Allyson recommends trying out for a school team. "You don't need professional coaching in high school," she explained. "Work hard, listen to your coach, and have fun."

One follower asked Allyson how her diet has changed over the years, and Allyson said that when she first went pro, "I ate whatever I wanted." Over time, Allyson learned more about nutrition and realised that she needed to fuel her body differently to handle the intensity of her training. Now, she works with a nutritionist to ensure she's getting all the nutrients her body needs.

Allyson recently signed a sponsorship deal with Athleta and said she loves the runsie because it makes her feel fast. She also shared that she'll be releasing a signature line next year.
