Pia Wurtzbach, who was crowned Miss Universe in 2015, will be going for her personal best at this year's marathon. "Finished running 32km last weekend — my longest run so far, and now we're on the final stretch of training!" she captioned an Instagram post on Oct. 9. Wurtzbach added that a few setbacks, including a case of COVID-19, had her worried she wouldn't be able to complete the marathon.
"I missed training days and some of those essential long runs so I was really worried," she said. "My performance suffered. I couldn't get the mileage in, and I was slower than before." With some guidance and support from friends and family, Wurtzbach has continued her training and looks forward to completing the marathon this fall.
"So now the goal is to just finish the marathon," she said. "No matter how slow or fast it'll take me. I realised that this isn't a pageant. I'm not competing against anyone but myself."
