LaKeith Stanfield Talks Therapy in GMA Interview

LaKeith Stanfield Opens Up About Going to Therapy: "It Ended Up Being Very Beautiful"

LaKeith Stanfield is a compelling and talented actor with an impressive career, including roles in Get Out, Knives Out, Atlanta, and most recently Judas and the Black Messiah. And while he has expressed pain in his work on screen, Stanfield told T.J. Holmes in an interview with Good Morning America that he maybe has channelled some of that pain from his own experiences in his personal life.

"I just recently started therapy, which is good, and I realised that I had a lot of pain and a lot of things that I didn't address in my childhood," he said. "And I imagine to some extent that definitely has to come across in my performances." He said he wants to use his experiences to help tell stories and inspire people with his work, which he called a "silver lining to all that negativity."

Although starting therapy was a choice made for him by a loved one, Stanfield said he's been continuing to go and that it's helped him release a lot of pain and work towards being better. "It ended up being very beautiful," he said. "Every time I leave feeling just a little bit better than I was." Watch the full interview in the video above.
