Kourtney Kardashian's Erewhon Poosh Smoothie Recipe & Review

Kourtney Kardashian Barker Crafted a New Punk-Rock Smoothie For Erewhon. Here's How to Make It

I'm an ugly smoothie girl, not a Pinterest smoothie girl. A few mornings a week, I throw a banana, protein powder, chia seeds, kale or spinach, ice, and maybe some peanut butter (or, to be honest, any leftover coffee in the carafe) into a blender and chug down the resulting green-brown sludge without thinking much about it — usually while scrolling past pics of the kind of colourful, toppings-laden smoothies I wish I was drinking.

But this week, I was the one sipping a double-take worthy smoothie: the Poosh Potion Detox Smoothie created by Kourtney Kardashian Barker, which is available starting on Oct. 15 for a limited run at Erewhon, a market with eight locations in California. Erewhon has built a name for itself for its smoothies (and its high prices). Recently, its $17 Cloud Smoothie was the blended drink du jour.

The Poosh Potion Detox Smoothie is as least as eye-catching as the beautiful blue Cloud Smoothie and certainly overshadows the green and pink drinks that usually populate my feed. That's because instead of being green, or blue, or pink, Kardashian Barker's smoothie was a baby goth-appropriate black. Only too fitting, since Kourt has leaned into her punk-rock side since getting together with her husband, Travis Barker.

I live on the East coast, so I wasn't able to visit Erewhon for the actual smoothie. But they kindly sent me the ingredients and a recipe card so I could make it myself. The smoothie gets its colour (and the word "detox" in its title) from one of its ingredients: charcoal powder, which is thought to help absorb gas in your stomach (and "toxins" — although, of course, your body does a great job of detoxifying itself via your existing organs). The smoothie also contains fulvic acid, a group of chemicals that's supposed to help keep your immune and GI systems healthy. Its base was Harmless Harvest coconut water, which I kicked myself for never thinking to use in my smoothies before — I loved the extra hydration and nutty, salty-sweet taste it added to the finished product.

The Poosh Potion Detox Smoothie came together almost as easily as my usual banana-chia sludge, although it contains at least twice as many ingredients, and the charcoal powder left long black streaks all over my kitchen any myself (it does not stain, thank goodness).

While the smoothie looks devilish, it tasted great: coconutty and not too sweet, with a really delicious creaminess from the avocado, coconut cream, Harmless Harvest dairy-free yoghurt, and banana. I had enough ingredients to make my husband a smoothie, and he definitely seemed to prefer it to my usual concoction (rude) and said it tasted "healthy" — not in a "I added kale to this" way, but in a "balanced" way.

The Poosh Potion Detox Smoothie created by Kourtney Kardashian Barker will be available at Erewhon markets from Oct. 15 to Nov. 15, for $18. And if you're on the fence about the price tag, just think of it as swapping out one of your pricey cocktails on a night out for something that's just as (or more) delicious, but is good for you instead (a mental shift I picked up from this TikTok). Plus, it matches your all-black outfits and feels especially appropriate for Halloween. Happy sipping.
