On Feb. 16, Chip Gaines posted an adorable photo of his 8-month-old son, Crew, with his little feet sticking out of his bassinet. But this is no ordinary bassinet, it's the $1,295 Snoo Smart Sleeper, which parents lucky enough to try it say is a magical product for helping their little one sleep better. However, the SNOO is only recommended for babies up to 6 months, or those who can pull themselves up; and because Crew's past that point now, Chip posed the question, "Uh oh . . . what happens when they out grow the SNOO??" in the caption of his photo.
From there, commenters on the post suggested practical solutions ("Buy a crib"), funny solutions ("Use it as a little pen for some baby animals"), longterm solutions ("Save it for your grandkids"), or suggested they give it away to them. Kelly Claggett is one such commenter who added her hat into the ring, but offered to pay the Gaineses for the pricey piece of baby gear. "Sell it to me!!" Kelly wrote. "After 12 years, my husband and I are FINALLY expecting!!"
With thousands of comments on the post, Kelly likely didn't think she'd ever get an actual response from Chip, but the dad of five saw her comment and seems to have barely hesitated before agreeing to donate the SNOO to Kelly through his assistant, whose Instagram handle is, fittingly, "@assistingchip."
"We're so excited for you! Let's get her set up, @assistingchip," Chip commented on his post. His assistant's account responded: "You got it! Sending you a DM, @kelclag!"
Kelly wrote back to Chip and his assistant to thank them, and after that, Chip's followers started replying to Kelly, offering their congratulations on her pregnancy. The mom-to-be, who has actually been trying to have a baby for 14 years, according to her husband and Parents, shared her struggles with one of the women who shared that she was tearing up over how sweet this entire interaction was.
"We have been trying for a baby for several years," Kelly wrote. "We decided not to do fertility treatments and pray, pray, pray. My mom died out of the clear blue and it was emotionally hard to dream that a baby was going to be in our future ever. Then, right before Christmas, we found out that after so long we were finally pregnant. Everything is going great. It pays to pray!"
