Kristen Bell Tips For Having the Best Summer Ever

Kristen Bell Won't Abandon Dax in the Middle of a "Tornado," but Hey, Me Time Is Still Important

Between starring in The Good Place, launching her own "Momsplaining" series on The Ellen Degeneres Show, and being a spokesperson for the sparkling water brand Spindrift (she swears by the new lime flavour!), life can get a little crazy for Kristen Bell and her husband Dax Shepard. Throw in the fact she plays mom to two sweet girls, 6-year-old Lincoln and 4-year-old Delta, and it's go-go-go all the time. Recently, the 38-year-old mom opened up to us about how she plans to have the best Summer ever, and we're definitely taking notes.

"I think it's important to ask for what you need," Kristen told POPSUGAR. "So if I'm feeling like I need 20 minutes of alone time to read a book or paint my nails or just sit and do nothing, I will ask for it. Obviously, I pick my times wisely. I try not to abandon my husband right in the middle of a tornado, but it's important to make time for yourself. You can't take care of others unless you've taken care of yourself."

And getting those few hours — or, er, minutes — of time for yourself often boils down to good old-fashioned organisation. "We have a family calendar that we keep on the kitchen counter," explained the mom of two. "We add the kids and adults tasks, appointments, obligations, etc. It's a huge paper calendar in a central location, so everyone's schedule is in one place. It has been very helpful for us."

Kristen also isn't a stranger to throwing the occasional Summer soirèe. Naturally, she has a few products she and her guests can't get enough of. "I love serving fresh fruit in the Summer," she said. "There is a strawberry farm in Oxnard called Harries Berries and the strawberries are so good it almost feels wrong. They taste like they've been injected with sugar. EVERY time someone comes over and tries one for the first time, they have an audible reaction."

As a host, hydration is the name of the game for Kristen, especially if there's alcohol involved. "I like to put out different flavours of Spindrift," she said. "They have so many and I have yet to try one I didn't like. Our guests will use them as mixers or as stand alone drinks."

It looks like Kristen and her family have the perfect Summer all figured out!
