PICU Nurse Adopts a Baby She Treated For Months

This PICU Nurse Adopted a Baby She's Been Treating For Months, and Wow, Talk About Fate

Angela Farnan, a PICU nurse with 32 years of experience working at OSF Children's Hospital in Peoria, IL, finally got the son she's always wanted. After treating a baby named Blaze over the span of eight months, she finally brought him home this past Summer after his biological mother could no longer care for him. And to make matters even more emotional, the infant had to go through two major surgeries due to a congenital heart defect.

According to CBS Chicago, little Blaze needed surgery just three days after he was born and a second operation eight months later. While both procedures were successful, he'll need a third surgery before the age of 5 and potentially a transplant.

On the day of the infant's second surgery in March 2018, Blaze's mom approached Angela to see if she'd be interested in officially adopting her son. And although the moment was certainly bittersweet, Angela and her husband Rick immediately said yes.

"The good Lord put us where we are for a reason," said Angela. "She made a heartfelt decision to ask us if we'd be willing to keep him on a permanent basis," Angela said. "It was an emotional time . . . She was in tears. Internally, we are ecstatic but sad for this mom who is feeling a loss."

Angela — who has always wanted to be a mom — said that Blaze has been recovering well from his surgeries. He can walk and even ride his bike. "I've always wanted to be a mother, and then you just have to realise and trust in God and believe that he has a greater purpose for you."

Congrats to the happy family, and best of luck to Blaze with his impending operation.
