Alanis Morissette Gave Her Son 1 Heck of a Name! Here's the Meaning Behind It
Alanis Morissette, the singer behind some of our favourite songs from the '90s and '00s, is officially a mum of three! While announcing the news via Instagram on Aug. 12, the 45-year-old vocalist and songwriter shared her son's name: Winter Mercy Morissette-Treadway.
Although Alanis hasn't come out directly to share the meaning behind her son's name, she's always had a thing for uncommon names! She named her oldest son Ever Imre and went with a unique moniker for her daughter, Onyx Solace, as well. According to Baby Name Wizard, Winter can mean "bringing of renewal" or the "rebirth of Spring." Her son's middle name, Mercy, has historically meant "compassion, forgiveness, or pity." And believe it or not, Alanis actually recorded a song with the very same title in 1999 for Jonathan Elias's album The Prayer Circle. While we can't definitively say the song played a role in her baby's middle name choice, it's one heck of a coincidence!
