Chrissy Teigen Quotes on Parenthood and Pregnancy Loss

Chrissy Teigen Reflects on Experiencing Pregnancy Loss: "I've Learned How Strong I Am"

Chrissy Teigen is sharing what parenthood means to her in People's Beautiful Issue. Smiling on the cover with her children — Luna, 4, and Miles, 2 — Chrissy explained how she and John Legend have taken a laid-back approach to raising their kiddos and how they've been coming to terms with the pregnancy loss they experienced last year.

"I'm an open, free spirit and I love kids to be kids. For us, kindness is such a big thing. When you meet our kids, they're very warm and friendly," she told People. "You instill those things in them, but for the most part let them be creative and wondrous and spirited and curious beings."

The 35-year-old supermodel and founder of the beloved cooking empire, Cravings, also reflected on what it was like growing up with her mom, Vilailuck "Pepper" Teigen, who has become a fan-favourite on Chrissy's social media. "My mom was never once like, 'You probably shouldn't use Sharpie on your eyebrows,'" she said. "She just let me do it — and I learned! With kids, you let them figure out what they love. John and I are both very relaxed and willing to learn together."

Having worked as a model throughout her teens and early 20s, Chrissy is no stranger to diet culture. However, now that she's a mom and has several successful business ventures, her priorities have shifted.

"Whatever love we put out into the world 10 years ago, we're getting it back tenfold. I feel every piece of love from everybody around the world."

"I put my mind and spirit over body," she explained. "If it's going to make me happy and make me feel good, then I indulge in it. I've spent too many years counting calories and scheduling way too many workouts and trying to figure out what my term for wellness was for myself. Now I know it's on the ground playing with my kids or going to a park or an aquarium."

She also shared how her marriage has changed since having kids with John. After the pair met on the set of his "Stereo" music video in 2006, she thought she knew him inside and out — until they started their family. "I thought I knew everything about John, and then [we] had children," she said. "Seeing him take care of them is beautiful. Seeing my partner be a father is really wonderful."

Although the couple has celebrated tons of achievements and happy moments together in their seven years of marriage, they were heartbroken after the loss of their son, Jack — who passed away when Chrissy was 20 weeks pregnant — in Sept. 2020.

"I've learned how strong physically and mentally a body can be," said Chrissy, who shared her devastating experience on social media in the hopes of supporting other women who have gone through the same heartbreak. "I've learned how strong I am. This year has been a roller coaster for everybody in the world, including our little family."

She continued, noting that being supported during the emotional time period meant everything: "Seeing people rally around us has been really beautiful. There have been things in the past year that I never thought John would have to see, but it's also been so wonderful that we have prevailed and still see each other with so much more love than we could have ever, ever imagined ever in our lives. Whatever love we put out into the world 10 years ago, we're getting it back tenfold. I feel every piece of love from everybody around the world."

Now, Chrissy is looking forward to what the future holds for their family. "I can't wait to see salt-and-pepper John and me next to him with my silver hair," she said. "I really look forward to our children being hopefully the type of kids that come over every weekend for Sunday dinner," she says. "That would be incredibly meaningful to me. I will be so happy seeing my family all around the same table."
