John Legend's Kid-Friendly Buttermilk Fried Chicken Recipe

John Legend Made a Kid-Friendly Version of His Legendary Fried Chicken, and Luna Approved

As someone who refused to eat onions in any form growing up, I know all too well that kids are picky eaters — even if their parents happen to be amazing cooks. Just because Chrissy Teigen is the author of multiple cookbooks and John Legend whips up some of the tastiest recipes we've ever seen on a regular basis doesn't mean Luna and Miles will settle for just any gourmet dish. Like most kids, they prefer the simple foods in life — namely, chicken tenders.

In a video shared to Chrissy's YouTube channel on Aug. 14, John — who is excited to be a father of three soon! — whipped up a kid-friendly batch of his "legendary" fried chicken in the form of tenders, and the dipping possibilities are endless. While Luna and Miles prefer ketchup and ranch, John and Chrissy recommend pairing the dish with a sweet chili sauce or Chrissy's homemade honey-mustard ranch. Best of all, the chicken only takes 10 minutes to cook after soaking in a creamy buttermilk marinade overnight.

Simple but flavourful spices like garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and Lawry's seasoned salt also make this a dish the whole family will approve of. In fact, Luna even came in to judge the finished product toward the end of the video, and her mouthful of chicken said it all. Watch John's full, kid-friendly fried chicken tutorial here.
