PETA Criticized Justin Bieber's Choice to Get $35,000 Exotic Cats, and He Should Listen

And to be completely honest, Hannah does have a point. While Justin's new furry friends are adorable, there are actually millions of cats and kittens that need homes across the US. As someone who's rescued five cats off the streets of New Jersey, it's clear that some areas are so overrun with strays that there are straight-up colonies full of cats who get fed by strangers but often die from the elements or illness.

That's not even counting the cats who are either surrendered or abandoned each year. According to the ASPCA, 3.2 million cats enter shelters every single year in the US, and of those who are brought in, 860,000 are euthanized. Although I'm not usually someone who tells others what to do with their money, there's no denying these numbers are indeed pretty staggering, making purchasing a kitten seem completely irresponsible. And in reference to Justin's note about "what animal breeders are for," animal breeders solely exist to make money, plain and simple.

"There really is no excuse for purchasing any kitten from a breeder," Hannah explained in her video. "It blows my mind that in countries where kittens . . . are routinely euthanized that anybody thinks there's a reason to be going out and creating more kittens for people to purchase."

The bottom line? While it's somewhat understandable that Justin doesn't think he's doing anything wrong, supporting cat breeders only leads to more felines dying in shelters. Given the upsetting shelter statistics in the US, there's absolutely no reason to get a cat — or kitten, for that matter — from a breeder, period.
