PETA's Comments About Justin Bieber's $35,000 Exotic Cats

PETA Criticized Justin Bieber's Choice to Get $35,000 Exotic Cats, and He Should Listen

In case you missed it, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin officially welcomed two very adorable Savannah kittens, whom they named Sushi and Tuna, two weeks ago. After announcing the news on Instagram, the 25-year-old singer promptly made his new "children" their very own account and instantly begun sharing some sweet snaps.

While both kittens are extremely adorable, the fact that they cost the couple around $35,000 might strike people as a little insane. Aside from that figure being a *bit* expensive for most of us, PETA and Hannah Shaw — a kitten rescuer and humane educator who "has dedicated her life to finding innovative ways to protect animals" — spoke out about why buying cats from exotic breeders is problematic for so many other reasons.

In a statement made to USA Today, PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said: "Baby, baby, baby, nooooooo. Justin Bieber could inspire his fans around the world to save a life by adopting a cat from a local animal shelter — rather than fueling the dangerous demand for hybrid cats, contributing to the animal overpopulation crisis, and proving that when it comes to helping animals, his stance so far is 'I don't care.'"

"Justin Bieber could inspire his fans around the world to save a life by adopting a cat from a local animal shelter."

Justin apparently didn't take the criticism too well, firing back in his Instagram Story at Lange, saying the organisation can "suck it," among other things. "PETA go focus on real problems," he wrote. "Like poaching, and animal brutality. [You're] tripping because I want a specific kind of cat? You weren't tripping when I got my dog Oscar and he wasn't a rescue. Every pet we get must be a rescue? I believe in adopting rescues but also think there are preferences and that's what breeders are for." He later added: "PETA go help with all the plastic in the ocean. And leave my beautiful cats alone."

Animal rescue advocate Hannah, aka the Kitten Lady on Instagram, also shared a video criticizing Justin's decision, referring to the choice as a "total bummer" in her caption.
