After Saturday's Accident, Disney World Has Yet to Set a Reopen Date For Skyliner

If you were planning on using Walt Disney World's new Skyliner system in the near future, you're going to need to find a more grounded transportation option. The aerial cable car system had an accident on Saturday, Oct. 5, that left passengers stranded in the air (some for around three hours) and a few of the cars jammed together. No injuries were reported and there is currently no official word on exactly when the Skyliner will reopen. It's used to transport guests to and from Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and a few of the nearby Disney resorts.

Following the unexpected downtime, Disney did release a statement telling guests that the Skyliner would remain closed while they investigated the cause of the incident, though they did not disclose exactly what went wrong. The Skyliner gondolas had been open for only a week prior to the accident, with many guests excitedly singing the praises of this breezy new mode of transportation. There is currently signage outside each of the Skyliner stations instructing guests to utilise bus transportation or the walking path between Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

If you have a trip planned in the near future, and especially if you are staying at one of the resorts serviced by the Skyliner, cast members onsite should be able to inform you of any alternate modes of transportation. The Skyliner is just one of the many exciting new attractions at Disney World, so fingers crossed that it'll be back in business soon.
