You know how Jennifer Lopez seems to be ageing backwards and always looks like she's stepped out of a tub of liquid gold? Yep — that's the work of makeup genius Scott Barnes, who has blessed the world with his artistic talent. His ability to shape and transform faces has been well documented on images of Lopez's red carpet looks, in his three books, and the recent YouTube collaboration videos he's done with beauty blogger Tati Westbrook. While we sit around and pray for Barnes to post more videos to his own YouTube channel, we've outlined Jennifer Lopez's Makeup artist's best tips so we can try our best to absorb his genius. Use Makeup Items For More Than Their Intended Purpose Image Source: Getty / Evan Agostini In a video with Tati Westbrook, Barnes revealed that you can easily use a single makeup item in several ways, despite what department store sales associates suggest. "[They make you think that] you need an eye primer, and then you need the eye shadow, and then concealer. . . You're walking away with all these things when you could just get two things and do a whole face with it," he explained. Cream Products Look the Most Natural Image Source: Getty / Jeffrey Mayer Barnes mentioned in a video with Westbrook that he prefers the finish of cream products to powder ones. "I love cream. I think cream works primarily better than powder . . . it looks like it's coming from inside the skin." How to Apply Powder Image Source: Getty / George Pimentel Barnes recommends that you should apply powder with a small tapered brush, rather than a large fluffy one, for strategically setting your makeup where you don't want it to fade. Never Forget to Put Makeup On Your Body Image Source: Getty / Steve Granitz Bring the makeup down your neck, chest, and the hands (yep, even the hands!) to ensure your bronze gold matches the rest of your body. Use Concealer to Shape Your Face Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris Concealer is used for more than just the under eyes, Barnes likes to take the concealer down into her nasolabial folds (the technical term for smile lines) to bring forward those indentations. Prep With a Rich Moisturiser Image Source: Getty / Michael Tran In a segment with FOX 11 Los Angeles, Barnes told viewers that mixing a small amount of a rich moisturiser into your foundation will give a superdewy finish. Overline Your Lips Image Source: Getty / Jon Kopaloff One of Barnes's most used tricks is using a lip pencil to draw outside your natural lip line (more than someone might normally) giving the lips a fuller effect, particularly on the red carpet. In his segment with Fox 11, he tells viewers to ensure you blend the liner in with the rest of your lip colour. Use Slightly Shimmery Powders Over Contour Image Source: Getty / Frazer Harrison Barnes uses powders with slightly shimmery finishes to blend out his contour, moving in an upward motion. It makes the lines disappear into the skin. How to Make Your Body Glow Image Source: Getty / Jon Kopaloff One of the most surprising tricks that Barnes revealed in his first video with Westbrook, was using sunscreen to give a sheen to the skin. He sprayed Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Lightweight Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 (£10) on her chest and shoulders. Not only does this give the skin a gorgeous sheer glow, it also, of course, protects against sun damage, so it really is a win win. First, he turns the lash band inside out to stretch it and then applies the glue. Then he places the lash on the lid, finds the inner and outer corner, and presses that down and taps the centre.
