Popsugar Beauty Hairstyles Hairstyles Long Hair in Hot Weather 32 Hairstyles That Are Perfect For Hot Weather 9 September 2018 by Gemma Cartwright Image Source: Getty If you have long hair, no doubt when the temperatures rise, you're on the lookout for ways to keep your hair up and off your face and neck. In hot weather, long hair can quickly become a damp, frizzy mess, and it's often better to style it away from your face than try to get through the day with your usual blow-dry. Luckily, that doesn't have to mean a boring ponytail or simple plait. There are multiple ways to add a little interest to classic updos, from a topknot with a twist to a braided 'do that looks complicated but is totally achievable with a bit of help from a friend. We've pulled together 32 looks, taking inspiration from our favourite stars, to show that no matter your hair type, there's an updo for you. Let sweaty neck be a thing of the past! Camila Mendes Image Source: Getty / Joe Scarnici Work with your hair's natural texture, and sweep air-dried waves back into a simple bun, letting one strand hang down in the front. 1 / 32 Hailey Baldwin Image Source: Getty / ALBERTO PIZZOLI Give your gym hair a high fashion makeover. A super-high messy topknot looks really chic once you add diamond earrings and edgy makeup. 2 / 32 Halsey Image Source: Getty / Frazer Harrison Day 3 hair? Comb it into a deep side parting, and sweep back into a low ponytail. Wrap a strand of hair around the band to hide it, and you've got a red carpet look that works just as well for work. 3 / 32 Ciara Image Source: Getty / Michael Kovac If you can't bear to be parted from your hair extensions, wear them in a ponytail, rather than loose, to give your neck a bit of air. 4 / 32 Emma Watson Image Source: Getty / Jon Kopaloff A haphazard updo gets dressed up with feather pins for an ethereal feel. This works best on fine hair that's not been washed for a day or two. 5 / 32 Freema Agyeman Image Source: Getty / Slaven Vlasic Sweep long braids up high and make the most of their thickness in a chunky bun that covers the whole crown. 6 / 32 Eleanor Tomlinson Image Source: Getty / Karwai Tang Air-dry wavy hair with plenty of texture spray, before enlisting a friend to help create a fine fishtail braid, the messier the better. 7 / 32 Charli XCX Image Source: Getty / Gary Gershoff Give a '90s topknot a more modern spin by pulling out sections of the hair by the ears, rather than at the parting. 8 / 32 Aly Michalka Image Source: Getty / Paul Archuleta Naturally curly hair can be a pain in hot weather, so rather than straightening it, work with your natural texture. Pin the hair back while it's still damp to re-create Aly's laid-back look. 9 / 32 Gugu Mbatha-Raw Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris Start from the neck and round the ears to re-create this look, pulling the hair back and pinning curls upwards as you reach the crown. At the front, tease the hair, and use as few kirby grips as possible to give volume. 10 / 32 Kate Beckinsale Image Source: Getty / Tara Ziemba Kate's ponytail may look effortless, but it's anything but. Create this in four stages: first backcomb and pin back the front third of the hair to give it a small quiff. Then pull the bottom third up into a high ponytail. Twist the remaining hair (including the ends of the front section) and fasten in another ponytail directly on top of the first, pulling it gently to give lift. Then curl the hair with a wide tong to add movement. 11 / 32 Kendall Jenner Image Source: Getty / Venturelli Kendall's twist on the topknot leaves the ends loose for an architectural look. 12 / 32 Madelaine Petsch Image Source: Getty / JB Lacroix The Riverdale redhead's superlong locks allow her to twist it round twice, into a bun that looks like it has two layers. Precision is key here, so use hairspray to hold down every last flyaway. 13 / 32 Lily James Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris Four twists as the front of the hair are gathered into a loose french plait at the back. This is a great look for anyone who's growing out a fringe or layers, as it'll disguise any loose ends. 14 / 32 Jennifer Lopez Image Source: Getty / Taylor Hill Jen's topknot is simple and chic, with just a few soft hairs left loose around the edges. 15 / 32 Tia Mowry Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris Cornrows that direct the hair off the face are already great for keeping cool, but they double up as the perfect foundation for a chunky, curly bun like Tia's. 16 / 32 Julianne Hough Image Source: Getty / David Livingston Julianne's hair may look really intricate, but it's actually just three french plaits that have then been plaited together from ear level. 17 / 32 Eiza Gonzalez Image Source: Getty / Mike Marsland Fishtail braids are perfect in the heat, but you can keep your neck even cooler by starting one after putting hair into a ponytail. Add clip-in extensions to help bulk out the plait if your hair is finer or shorter. 18 / 32 Pearl Mackie Image Source: Getty / Mike Marsland Pearl's a master at knowing exactly where to pin or tie her hair to create some drama. The general rule? However far forward you think you need to go, add an inch! 19 / 32 Karen Gillan Image Source: Getty / Karwai Tang Karen takes gym hair to the next level with a bit of backcombing and some rock chick makeup. 20 / 32 Lea Michele Image Source: Getty / Jeffrey Mayer Lea puts a spin on the tiny topknot by keeping the front of her hair in a sharp centre parting. You may need to twist those front sections around the knot separately to the rest of the hair to avoid bumps. 21 / 32 Yara Shahidi Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris Never underestimate the power of double dutch braids on superlong hair. 22 / 32 Gal Gadot Image Source: Getty / Axelle/Bauer-Griffin When you're as gorgeous as Gal, all you need is the same hairdo the rest of us use when we're taking off our makeup at the end of the night. 23 / 32 Amber Heard Image Source: Getty / Monica Schipper Backcomb the front sections of the hair before pulling them back into an ear-height bun to re-create Amber's simple but chic look. 24 / 32 Petra Nemcova Image Source: Getty / Stephane Cardinale - Corbis The classic ponytail gets an added twist thanks to two tiny braids at eyebrow level. 25 / 32 Amirah Vann Image Source: Getty / Charley Gallay There's no such thing as too much quiff! Go big at the front and keep things simple at the back with this combo of pompadour and plait. 26 / 32 Leigh-Anne Pinnock Image Source: Getty / Joe Maher Leigh-Ann's topknot has mirror shine and feather-like ends. To re-create this you'll need a whole lot of serum and some strong-hold gel. 27 / 32 Anna Kendrick Image Source: Getty / Kevin Mazur Hair extensions can be a nightmare in hot weather, but one way to keep wearing them is to start with a ponytail. Then you can indulge in longer lengths without the sweaty neck! 28 / 32 Thandie Newton Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris A high ponytail with crimped sections may sound like something straight out of the '80s, but Thandie is proof it can work. 29 / 32 Kate Mara Image Source: Getty / Jim Spellman Love a topknot? How about two?! 30 / 32 Vanessa Marano Image Source: Getty / Paul Archuleta If you have thick hair, double (or triple) your plaits for added interest. 31 / 32 Jesy Nelson Image Source: Getty / Ben Gabbe Jesy softens up the festival hairdo of the year — space buns — by leaving pieces out around the sides and loosening up each twist so it falls a little softer. 32 / 32 HairstylesHair IdeasHair BunsLong HairstylesUpdoCelebrity HairPlaitsCelebritiesCamila MendesHalsey
