Autumn may be right around the corner, but Hayden Panettiere's new look screams summer. After dyeing her blonde hair bubblegum pink earlier this month, the actor added pastel green roots, creating quite the juicy colour combination. "Love my new watermelon 🍉 vibes up top!" she wrote on Instagram on 18 Sept., crediting Los Angeles-based colourist Erick Orellana for the dye job. Her mint roots blend seamlessly into the rest of her pink hair, and she also resurrected the wispy bangs she was rocking a few years ago.
Panettiere has drastically changed up her classic blonde hair a few times throughout her career, briefly experimenting with a reddish-brown colour in 2010 before chopping it into a blonde pixie cut. The star brought back her pixie — in a cool silver hue and with shaved sides — in 2019, closely channelling her "Scream 4" character Kirby Reed's signature hairstyle.
Panettiere's watermelon-inspired hair fits right in with the plethora of fruit-themed beauty trends that've inundated our social media feeds this year. There was the "tomato girl" aesthetic, embodied by bronzed skin and lots of blush, and Hailey Bieber's strikingly similar "strawberry girl" makeup look, which is all about flushed cheeks and glossy lips. And let's not forget about Zendaya-approved "blueberry milk" nails, a catchy term used to describe creamy blue manicures. Perhaps Panettiere is onto something and "watermelon girl" hair will make a splash next.
