Lush Released a Hair-Care Line For Curly and Coily Hair, and These 4 Products Surprised Me

The Lush Cosmetics Power Conditioner (£10) is the first product I tried from the lineup. (The collection includes a conditioning cleanser, but since this was my first real wash after taking out some box braids, I figured I need to use an actual shampoo.) This conditioner has restorative properties, and it features maple syrup to moisturise the hair, almond oil to soften, and sweet potatoes to strengthen the ends. All of that is to say that it really is like food for your hair, and knowing that it was made with all of these natural ingredients made applying it to my hair feel that much better.

After cleansing, I went ahead and applied this to my wet (not damp) hair and left it in for as long as I would a deep conditioner, which is about 30 minutes. Once I rinsed it out, I noticed that, though it definitely made my hair feel softer, it didn't make my hair feel as moisturised as the conditioning products that I regularly use.

If there's anything I've noticed about my low porosity 4C hair in the past several months, it's that it hates superthick creams and moisturisers, so I was the most excited to try the Lush Cosmetics Super Milk Hair Primer (£13.50). It's an extremely lightweight product that features almond, coconut, and oat milks in order to soften and condition the hair. For anyone out there who follows the LOC method, this product was created to be the first step, the liquid or liquid-based leave-in.

I loved that this product was able to moisturise my curls without just sitting on my hair and making it feel supergreasy or weighed down. This is something that I'd have to follow up with a light oil to make sure I'm getting the most out of it and sealing in the moisture, but I'd definitely add it to my regimen to use it as a regular leave-in conditioner.

Speaking of oils, the Lush Cosmetics Renee's Shea Souffle Hair & Scalp Oil (£12) is the second step in the LOC method, but I'd argue that you could probably also use it as your third step if you're more of an LCO person. This one is made with castor oil (to strengthen the hair), coconut oil (to moisturise and condition), and shea butter (to soften), and it comes in the form of a paste or butter, though you can melt it a little by rubbing it in between your hands before applying it to your hair.

I applied this after using the Super Milk Hair Primer, and it definitely made my hair feel softer and more moisturised. Even though it was a little thicker than the hair oils I normally use, I was surprised to see how well it worked for my hair, particularly my ends. I also added some to my scalp after parting my hair in sections and twisting it out.

Of all the products, the Lush Cosmetics Curl Power Hair Cream (£10) is probably my favourite one in the lineup. It's another product that can be used as a leave-in conditioner, and I added it to each section of my hair as the final step before twisting it all up.

Aside from its heavenly smell, one of the first things about this cream that struck me was that a little goes a long way. I often feel the need to use almost a palm-size amount of product on my hair even when I'm working with smaller sections, but this cream applied so easily that I felt like I was getting a decent amount of moisture from just the quarter-size amount I was applying to each twist.

While I loved this product, my only gripe is that it flaked up on me a little bit once I took out my twists, though I'll admit that there wasn't a noticeable amount of flakes.
