This Lip Plumper Was So Intense, I Needed to Reapply Deodourant

Plump It Volumising Lip Plumper Review

This might sound cliché, but ever since moving to Los Angeles late last year, I've been obsessed with the idea of getting lip filler. However, I'm too scared to let a needle anywhere near my mouth. My temporary answer? Lip plumpers. "Lip plumpers aim to give a temporary bee-stung look to the lips without the discomfort of [lip filler injections] — and the risks and side effects that go along with that [procedure]. Many traditional lip plumpers use various ingredients that irritate the delicate skin of the lips to produce a noticeable increase in lip volume," Shari Marchbein, MD, clinical dermatologist, previously told POPSUGAR.

I've tested quite a few, and some have even made it into my daily routine. However, I recently saw one with the most dramatic results ever: the Plump It! Volumising Lip Serum (£23). I first saw this product when it was making the rounds on TikTok, and the results were amazing — but kind of scary. Everyone who had tested it out on the app said it worked — and I could see the difference — but they also said it burned . . . like, badly. One TikToker said she likened it to rubbing "satan's tip" across her lips.

Although the TikTok testimonials kind of freaked me out, since I'm not quite ready to take the injections plunge, I decided to give the viral product a try. Keep scrolling to read my full review of the Plump It Volumising Lip Plumper.

What I Like About the Plump It Volumising Lip Plumper

This product works. Testing it out for the first time was a journey. I was nervous to apply it after seeing all of the wild videos, and once I did, it immediately started burning. I had to fan my lips in order to get some relief, and at one point, I even needed to apply deodourant because I was sweating so badly.

First, it totally changed the colour of my lips from pale pink to a deeper red despite the serum being clear. My lips have discolouration on them from spending too much time in the sun without SPF, so this was a major plus for me. It also practically doubled the size of my lips — and it lasted. While the effect of lip plumpers usually only works for me for a few minutes, this one lasted hours.

How to Use the Plump It Volumising Lip Plumper

All you have to do is click the button to dispense the serum, then apply it directly to your lips. The brand says the amount you use should be customised based on how big you want your lips to be. Three clicks will give you an "extreme" plump, while just one click will give you a "subtle" plump.

The first time I tried it out, it took a few clicks before the serum actually dispensed. I went with just one click's worth of product, because as previously mentioned (like 500 times), I was a little nervous. Since then, I've been able to use up to three clicks, but I typically apply a balm to my lips first, which helps minimise the burn.

What to Consider Before Trying the Plump It Volumising Lip Plumper

One thing to consider before testing out this lip plumper? Well, this sh*t hurts. When you open the box for the first time, there's actually a caution symbol, which should tell you something. Does it hurt less than lip fillers? I'd imagine so, but since I've never had them, I can't confirm. The burning only lasts for a few minutes, and you do eventually get used to it, however, if you have a low pain tolerance, I'd suggest skipping this product altogether.
