Viola Davis, Simone Biles, and More Teamed Up With the CDC to Stress the Importance of Masks

The message is clear: wear a mask. Because under the mask we're all humans trying to protect ourselves and our loved ones. The Ad Council and the Centres For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have teamed up with celebrities on a new national campaign titled You Will See Me to urge the use of masks and help stop the spread of coronavirus. Viola Davis, Simone Biles, Questlove, Stephen A. Smith, La La Anthony, Victor Cruz, and Marcus Scribner are among those featured in the campaign to encourage Black Americans to combat the spread of the virus.

According to the CDC, Black and Latinx Americans are three times as likely to be infected with COVID-19, but something so simple as wearing a mask can help stop the spread. "Longstanding systemic inequalities continue to put Black Americans among those who are most severely affected by this virus," Leandris Liburd, PhD, MPH, MA, the associate director of the CDC's Office of Minority Health and Health Equity, said in a press release. "At this critical time in the pandemic, it is important that more Black Americans wear a face mask to help stop the spread of this virus in communities."
