"Well today alana closed one chapter of her life n I know we have been through ALOT and I know the road hasn't been a easy one for you for one but girl u done it now," Thompson's mother, June Shannon — better known as Mama June — wrote in the caption of a 20 May Instagram post. ". . .I'm so very proud of you you never gave up even when there was times we all know u was over getting up early n going to school and even what we have been through in the last few years u never quit or gave up and I'm so very proud of YOU."

Thompson's 23-year-old sister, Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon, was also in attendance. "To say im proud would be an understatement. To be there a witness this next chapter I'm amazed," she wrote in her post. "Amazed at how much you've grown, how beautiful your soul is, & most importantly how far youve come against all odds. Thompson and her family first rose to fame on "Toddlers & Tiaras," which from 2009 to 2013 and showed a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the world of youth pageantry. The family later appeared in their own show, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," which referenced Thompson's infamous nickname "Honey Boo Boo" and ran from 2012 to 2014.

Mama June later starred in another show called "Mama June: From Not to Hot," which premiered in 2017 and chronicled her weight loss journey. After she was arrested on drug charges in 2019, the show was renamed "Mama June: Family Crisis," and then was subsequently renamed "Mama June: Road to Redemption" in 2021 as it followed Mama June's journey towards sobriety and reconnecting with her family.
