Angelina Jolie and Son Maddox at White House State Dinner

Angelina Jolie brought 21-year-old son Maddox Jolie-Pitt as her date to the White House state dinner in Washington DC on 26 April. The pair arrived arm in arm to the soirée, which President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Jolie looked ethereal in a breezy white gown, matching blazer, and gold accessories, while Maddox looked sharp in a black suit and tie. The outing was a rare public appearance for Jolie and her eldest child, who studied at Yonsei University in Seoul and worked on the crew for Jolie's upcoming movie "Without Blood."

Several other notable stars were in attendance at the state dinner, including Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim and "Fixer Upper" duo Chip and Joanna Gaines. During the event, President Yoon surprised guests by singing one of his favourite songs, "American Pie," before Biden presented him with a guitar signed by Don McLean. Broadway stars Lea Salonga, Jessica Vosk, and Norm Lewis also took the mic to perform various showtunes.

Jolie and Maddox's night out in the nation's capital marks the first time they've been photographed together since 2021, when Jolie brought five of her children to two different premieres for her Marvel movie "The Eternals." Before that, Maddox also stepped out to support the release of his mom's Disney film "Maleficent" in 2019. Jolie shares a total of six kids — Maddox, 21; Pax, 19; Zahara, 18; Shiloh, 16; Vivienne, 14; and Knox, 14 — with ex-husband Brad Pitt. Last year, the actor made headlines for popping up at daughter Zahara's homecoming celebration at Spelman College and enjoying a Måneskin concert in Rome with daughter Shiloh.
