On April 18, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez announced that one of their newborn twins, a baby boy, has died. "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away," they wrote in an Instagram post. "It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness."

The couple did not share any other details, but they thanked the "doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support." The athlete, who plays for Manchester United, announced that he and Rodríguez were expecting twins in an Instagram post shared on Oct. 28, 2021. "Delighted to announce we are expecting twins," he captioned a photo of himself and Rodríguez holding up an ultrasound photo. "Our hearts are full of love — we can't wait to meet you."

In addition to his newborn baby girl, Ronaldo is also the father to 11-year-old Cristiano Jr., 4-year-old twins Eva Maria and Mateo, and his and Rodríguez's 4-year-old daughter, Alana Martina.

Heartbroken over the loss of their son, the pair added, "We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
