Emily Ratajkowski's 2-Year-Old, Sylvester, Had the Best Time in Tokyo With Her
Emily Ratajkowski is a proud mum to 2-year-old Sylvester Apollo Bear, whom she shares with her ex, Sebastian Bear-McClard. Ever since the 31-year-old model gave birth, Ratajkowski has been open and honest about her approach to parenting.
In a November 2021 conversation with Interview, she explained how she's protecting her child from the culture of toxic masculinity. " . . . this culture that I'm writing about in the book, is very bad for men," she said, referencing her 2021 book of essays titled "My Body." "I see it in my life, the ways that it limits men, and how depressing their existence and their lives can be when they have to adopt this toxic masculinity. So I also feel incredibly protective of him in the same way I would with a daughter, from this culture."
Ratajkowski's also trying to avoid her son growing up to be an insufferable, privileged rich kid. "I'm always thinking about how am I going to raise this child to not be entitled while also being confident," she told Romper in 2022. "And that's tricky. There's just so many privileges, honestly, that he is going to be used to. My instinct is just to provide him everything, but I am conscious of what that can breed, you know? I do think the world beats people down, and so I really believe that you need to make your child feel unconditionally loved and appreciated for who they are," adding, "But yeah, also he's a boy who lives in the West Village! I have to be really careful."
Sylvester Apollo Bear
Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard welcomed their baby into the world on 8 March, 2021. The model announced the arrival on Instagram, writing, "Sylvester Apollo Bear has joined us earth side. Sly arrived 3/8/21 on the most surreal, beautiful, and love-filled morning of my life."
Ratajkowski previously explained to Vogue that the former couple chose not to reveal the gender of their baby, saying, "When my husband and I tell friends that I'm pregnant, their first question after 'Congratulations' is almost always 'Do you know what you want?' We like to respond that we won't know the gender until our child is 18 and that they'll let us know then."
Ratajkowski travels with little Sylvester everywhere, most recently bringing him along on her trip to Tokyo in late March, where they visited the new TeamLab museum (and where she was spotted kissing the recently single Harry Styles at one point).
