Megan Thee Stallion Honoured With Her Own Day in Houston
May 2 will forever be commemorated as a special day for Megan Thee Stallion. On Sunday, the Grammy-winning Houston rapper received a key to her hometown as the mayor of Houston and city council members proclaimed May 2 as Megan Thee Stallion Day.
"Came home real quick to get THEE KEY TO THEE CITY 🤘🏾 and in honour of my mother and grandmother's birthday MAY 2ND is officially MEGAN THEE STALLION DAY IN HOUSTON TX🔥🔥🔥," she captioned an Instagram post. "thank you Mayor @sylvesterturner for honouring me today and I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today 💙 #htown."
During her emotional acceptance speech, Megan shared how special it is to have a day in honour of her late mother and grandmother, both of whom she lost in 2019. "Both of these women helped me grow into the woman that I am today," she said. "I don't know what kind of lady I would be if granny didn't raise me to be so kind and so giving . . . They made me feel so beautiful and so loved, and they made everybody they met feel just like that. So I was like, 'When I grow up, I wanna be just like them.'"
Mayor Sylvester Turner noted that Megan was selected to receive the esteemed honour because of her philanthropic contributions through her non-profit organisation Pete and Thomas Foundation. "Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honour her for what she does offstage to lift people's lives in underserved communities," he said to KPRC 2. "She assisted people after the 2021 winter storm, during the pandemic, and helped those struggling with homelessness. I look forward to watching her grow as an artist and humanitarian."
Megan's career accomplishments far extend beyond her music. Between her TV and film projects in development and buzzy brand partnerships, the Houston hot girl has all but proven she can succeed in any lane that she pursues. Now that she has the official cosign from her hometown, there's no telling what else she can do!
