Prince William and Kate Middleton Get Booed at Boston Celtics Game

Prince William and Kate Middleton didn't get the warmest welcome during their night out in Boston yesterday. The Prince and Princess of Wales sat courtside at a Celtics vs. Miami Heat game on 30 Nov. and found themselves on the jumbotron at some point, but the crowd wasn't exactly thrilled about their presence.

According to multiple videos posted on Twitter from various areas in the TD Garden Arena where the game took place, while there was cheering for the royals, the two also earned audible boos and chants of "USA, USA" when they appeared on the big screen.

Boston Globe reported that William and Kate were scheduled to leave the basketball game early but "were apparently having too much fun to call it a night." "They were going on 22 hours being up," said Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, "and they didn't want it to stop." The outlet also noted that the pair's appearance received a "generally warm reception, but some boos were sprinkled in." However, Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca says they thought the gentle heckling was funny.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are currently on day two of their three-day visit to Boston. It's their first trip outside of the UK since taking on their new royal titles following Queen Elizabeth II's death. In addition to their night out, William and Kate's other local stops include a climate tech startup in Somerville, a nonprofit named Roca, and a star-packed awards ceremony for the prince's Earthshot Prize at MGM Music Hall, per Boston.com.

In other royals news, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry — who were recently seen in an ad for the 2023 Invictus Games — will soon debut their long-awaited Netflix docuseries after months of speculation. Not much is known about what the documentary will cover, but it'll presumably shed light on their relationship and what they've experienced "behind closed doors."
