This Is Us: Jack and Rebecca's Epic Love Story Might Be the Greatest of Them All

Jack and Rebecca meet sometime in the mid '70s at a dive bar. Rebecca winds up there after she ditches a boring blind date, coming to the realisation that she should be doing what she really loves — singing. Jack happens to be at that same bar, and though he's originally up to no good, one look at Rebecca singing "Moonshadow" totally derails him.

The exact date of their nuptials is never revealed, but the small City Hall ceremony in which Jack and Rebecca make their relationship official is everything we could have ever wanted. The couple say their "I dos" in front of family and friends — including Miguel, Jack's best man, whom Rebecca will eventually go on to marry.

Thanks to the Pittsburgh Steelers' big Super Bowl win in 1980, Jack and Rebecca unknowingly conceive their triplets in a bar bathroom! Bars truly have a special place in the Pearson hearts.

The Big Three are born, ushering in the end of Summer with a bang! The Pearson family goes through the emotional wringer with the birth of the triplets, the loss of one child, and finally the discovery of baby Randall. Not only are Randall (Sterling K. Brown), Kevin (Justin Hartley), and Kate (Chrissy Metz) born on this day, but it's also the 36th birthday of one Jack Pearson.

The Pearsons officially adopt Randall a year after the Big Three are born. Jack gets a desk job to make more money and begins drinking. Rebecca gives him an ultimatum to stop or she'll leave him, and Jack promises to get his act together.

Since real life doesn't care about promises, Jack has to turn to boxing when everything starts stressing him out and pushing him to drink. He also gives up his plans for Big Three Homes construction company in order to pay for Randall's private school. Rebecca meets William twice in this decade and, during their second meetup, denies him the chance for any interaction with Randall in the future.

Rebecca has a cancer scare that leads to The Tree being introduced to the Pearson family story. She also joins her old band in a bid to feel alive again and wants to go on tour. After finding out she used to date another member, Jack feels threatened and asks her not to go. The resulting fight leads Jack to break his sobriety.

Jack decides to go after Rebecca when she leaves for her tour, but he's incredibly drunk. The two have a screaming match and ultimately decide to "take a breather." However, it isn't long before Rebecca goes looking for her husband and the two resolve to give their relationship another chance. Jack admits he's an alcoholic and needs professional help.

Things begin to look up for the Pearson family. Jack begins to attend Alcoholics Anonymous, and it sticks. He and Rebecca start to open up with each other, the kids start to think about college, and the couple find a stray dog that the family names Louie.

After Super Bowl XXXII, the Pearson family house catches fire because of a dish towel next to a faulty slow cooker. Jack braves the fire to get Rebecca, Randall, and Kate to safety, then goes back in to save Louie. Though he manages to escape the house at the last minute, Jack suffers from second-degree burns and smoke inhalation. At the hospital, while Rebecca is on the phone checking up on the kids, Jack goes into cardiac arrest due to stress on his heart from the smoke and dies.
