The year is 2023 and the UK's first gay dating show has been announced. Despite this proving to be a big step forward for inclusivity, it's somewhat shocking that it's taken until now for there to be a gay dating reality series. Premiering on BBC Three, the eight-part series is called "I Kissed a Boy" and will feature 10 gay men on the lookout for love. The contestants will enter an Italian farmhouse in pairs, where they will kiss straight away to discover if there is a spark.

At the helm of the series is Dannii Minogue who will be on hand to help the contestants discover their true feelings through a series of kiss-offs. The equivalent of a "Love Island" recoupling, the men will then decide whether to stay in their current partnerships or kiss another. From a stylist to an airline manager, the range of singletons are guaranteed to give "Bad Education" narrator Layton Williams plenty to discuss.

Minogue revealed the news on Twitter on 26 April, writing: "In a picture perfect Masseria in Italy... it all starts with a kiss for 10 boys in their search for love. I Kissed A Boy is the UK's first ever gay dating show, and it was a pleasure for me to be there to help these guys in their search for love."

This dating show is the latest in a burst of reality TV involving singletons looking for love. It was recently revealed that an all-star "Love Island" spin-off will be premiering later this year with Islanders from the UK, US, and Australian versions of the show. This year, we can also expect a "Love Is Blind" UK edition on Netflix, and Davina McCall is taking the reins for ITV's "The Romance Retreat" which will help more mature singletons find their perfect partner. It's a 2023 love-in and we are here for it.

Watch "I Kissed a Boy" from Sunday, 14 May on BBC Three at 9pm, and from 13 May on BBC iPlayer
