David Beckham Details Meeting Victoria in Netflix Documentary: "I Just Fancied Her"

You might think you know all there is to know about football superstar David Beckham, but his new four-part Netflix documentary, simply titled "Beckham", promises to give fans never-seen-before insight into his career and personal life. And the streamer is dropping more clips from the series to whet our appetite.

On 25 September, Netflix posted a teaser on its Instagram showing both David and Victoria talking separately of their first meeting, and it will make your heart melt. Victoria divulges that one of the first things that drew her to the football star was his closeness to his family, as she details that, when the other footballer's would be standing at the bar, David would be talking to his parents. For David, it was perhaps more physical. "That first time that I speak to her, I just fancied her," David says. But then Victoria adds, "I just fancied him. It was as simple as that."

This latest clip comes days after the dramatic trailer for the series shows the 48-year-old getting vulnerable as he speaks candidly about the ups and downs of his time in the limelight.

As well as opening up about the infamous red card he received in the 1998 World Cup, which saw him become a public hate figure, there are tidbits of information about his relationship with wife, Victoria. "My manager kept saying 'try and keep it under wraps'," the former Spice Girl explains. "So we would meet in car parks – and that's not as seedy as it sounds."

The couple soon became one of the most famous in the world, followed by paparazzi everywhere, which concerned those around him and the impact it might have on David's football focus. But he never stopped working. "I don't give up easy," he says. With insights from former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, his teammate Gary Neville, and his mum Sandra, the series is set to be an up close and personal look at the "global phenomenon" that is David Beckham.

Since his rise to prominence on the football pitch, David has become a style icon and a devoted dad-of-four. While we are used to seeing David, Victoria, and their kids post family gatherings on social media, this documentary looks to dive deeper behind the Beckham brand.
