Jurnee Smollett is set to reprise the role of Dinah Lance/Black Canary, which she played in 2020's Birds of Prey. On Aug. 20, she confirmed the news of her casting in a post on Instagram, saying, "Guess the Canary is out of the cage! 🤪 So excited to finally embark on this adventure with my creative soul sis @mishatrillxxl." As of now, the rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

Plot details are currently scarce, but what we do know is that it will focus on the version of Dinah Lance/Black Canary seen in 2020's Birds of Prey, whose mother also possessed the metahuman ability of supersonic screaming. However, if star Smollett has her way, Lady Shiva will likely make an appearance.

With Green writing and producing action-thriller The Mother and directing Tomb Raider 2, it's unclear when production on the film will begin. Add in the fact that Smollett still has Netflix films Escape From Spiderhead and Lou to shoot, and it's unlikely we'll get the project before late 2022/early 2023.
