Martin Scorsese, better known for his thrilling crime epics, took a detour from his traditionally explored themes and directed the psychological thriller Shutter Island. In 1954, US Marshal Edward "Teddy" Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), investigate the case of a missing patient from Ashecliffe Hospital, a facility for the criminally insane, on Shutter Island.
